Adoption Process

At Hundeity Great Danes, we take pride in ensuring every puppy is placed in a safe, loving, and well-prepared home. Here’s how our adoption process works:

1. Submit an Application - Start by completing our Puppy Application. This helps us learn more about your lifestyle, experience, and expectations as a future Great Dane owner.

2. Phone Interview - Once your application is reviewed, we’ll schedule a phone interview to get to know you better, answer any questions, and discuss fit.

3. Sign the Contract - If approved, you’ll review and sign our Purchase Agreement, which outlines the terms of the adoption, health guarantees, and care expectations.

4. Initial Deposit Received - A non-refundable deposit is then placed to begin the reservation process. Puppies are not officially held until the full $1,000 deposit is received.

5. Puppy Reserved - Once the contract is signed and the full deposit is paid, your puppy is officially reserved and off the market!

6. Weekly Updates - You'll receive weekly photo updates and developmental milestones so you can follow your puppy’s journey as they grow.

7. Great Dane Prep & Care - We’ll be in constant communication, sending links and resources to help you prepare for your puppy — including crate size, food, training tools, and care tips specific to the breed.

8. Finalize Pickup or Delivery - We’ll work together to arrange pickup or delivery, well in advance of go-home day, to ensure a smooth transition.

9. Final Payment - Final payment is due at 8 weeks of age or 1 week prior to departure, whichever comes first.

10. Go-Home Day - Your puppy joins their forever home! You’ll receive their health records, starter pack, and our full support.

11. Lifetime Breeder Support - Our commitment doesn’t end on go-home day — we're here to offer guidance and support for the life of your Great Dane.

How to get on our Waitlist

Puppy placements are handled through a structured deposit process. Our waitlist fills quickly, so early reservation is encouraged.

1. Waitlist Deposit: $500 - To secure a coveted spot on our waitlist before the puppies are born, a non-refundable fee of $500.00 is required. This amount will be applied toward the total deposit of your chosen puppy. Spots are limited and filled on a first come, first served basis. We move down the list in the order deposits are received, prior to reviewing any new applications. In the rare case that the litter you’re waiting for doesn’t produce a puppy that fits your preferences, your waitlist fee can be easily transferred to a future litter.

This fee is:

  • Non-refundable, but transferable
  • Applied toward the final purchase price of the puppy
  • Due before time of selection

2. Selection Deposit: $500 - Once puppies are born and you’ve been offered a spot for selection, a $500.00 Puppy Selection Fee is required to secure your individual puppy. This fee confirms your commitment and allows us to officially mark that puppy as reserved just for you.

This fee is:

  • Non-refundable, but transferable
  • Applied toward the final purchase price of the puppy
  • Due at the time of selection

We allow selections in the order of the waitlist, so early placement gives you more options to choose from the litter.

3. Final Payments Due 1 week Before Pickup - The remaining balance for your puppy is due no later than one (1) week before the scheduled go-home date. This policy is in place to ensure:

  • Travel arrangements (if needed) can be finalized without delays
  • Paperwork can be prepared in advance
  • A smooth and stress-free transition for both the puppy and new owner
  • Confirmation of commitment, allowing us to focus on your puppy’s final days with us, including extra care, socialization, and preparation

Late payments may result in delayed departure, so we appreciate your understanding and timeliness.

Limited AKC Registration

We’re proud to share that all of our Great Danes are AKC registered, reflecting our commitment to quality and breed standards. When you purchase a puppy from Hundeity Great Danes, you will receive the option to file for Limited AKC Registration. This means:

  • Your puppy is officially registered with the American Kennel Club
  • Your dog is eligible to compete in AKC events such as obedience, rally, and agility
  • Breeding rights are not granted under a Limited Registration

This helps us maintain the integrity of our lines and ensure that only the most suitable puppies enter breeding programs. If you are interested in Full AKC Registration (with breeding rights) or becoming a guardian home, please contact us directly to discuss eligibility, requirements, and availability.

AKC Reunite Microchipping

Every puppy from Hundeity Great Danes comes with a lifetime pre-registered AKC Reunite microchip, providing permanent identification and peace of mind from day one. This registration ensures your puppy is protected for life — no additional action or renewal is required.

What is AKC Reunite?

AKC Reunite is one of the most trusted pet recovery services in the United States, offering 24/7 support and a nationwide database used by veterinarians, shelters, and animal control agencies. Each microchip:

  • Contains a unique 15-digit ID number
  • Is registered for life in the AKC Reunite system
  • Can be scanned by any licensed facility to help reunite pets with their families quickly

Contact Structure & Why It Matters

At Hundeity Great Danes, we take recovery seriously. That’s why:

  • Hundeity Great Danes remains listed as the primary contact on all microchips
  • Buyers and their spouses are listed as alternate contacts at the time of registration
  • This layered approach ensures that, in the event of an emergency or outdated contact info, there are multiple reliable points of contact

This structure increases the chances of a fast and successful reunion should your puppy ever become lost or separated from you. As your breeder, we are committed to supporting your dog for life — and that includes being part of their safety net.

Ear Cropping

At Hundeity Great Danes, we recognize that ear cropping is a personal decision and one that should be made thoughtfully. While we do encourage cropping for both traditional appearance and ease of maintenance, we fully respect families who choose to leave ears natural. Whether cropped or natural, your puppy will be stunning — our focus is always on health, structure, and temperament first.

If you decide to move forward with ear cropping:

  • We will help arrange the procedure with a trusted and experienced veterinarian
  • It is essential that you commit to proper aftercare and ear posting to achieve the best results
  • Detailed instructions and support will be provided

While many breeders do not offer cropping as an option in their care, we are proud to provide this service with experience, care, and compassion. We work exclusively with a licensed and highly experienced veterinarian, whom we trust deeply. We travel several hours to ensure your puppy receives the best possible care and outcome.

Pros of Ear Cropping

  • Reduced risk of torn ears during play or work
  • Less likely to develop aural hematomas
  • Improved airflow, lowering risk of ear infections
  • Accentuates the Great Dane’s regal, defined facial structure

Cons of Ear Cropping

  • Requires consistent posting (1–2 times per week)
  • Longer crops may require posting for several months (up to a year in some cases)
  • Inconsistent posting can lead to improper ear standing

Procedure Details:

  • Ideal Age for Cropping: 7–9 weeks (typically performed between 7–12 weeks)
  • Performed While in Our Care (recommended for best recovery and results)
  • Sutures Stay In: 7–14 days post-procedure
  • Healing Time: 3–4 weeks for the ears to fully heal
  • Aftercare: Ears must be posted regularly to train them to stand

Pricing:

We offer professional ear cropping for an additional fee of $600 to $800, depending on crop style and vet availability. If you have questions, concerns, or would like to reserve cropping for your puppy, please reach out — we're happy to help guide you through the process.

Puppy Transport Options

At Hundeity Great Danes, we’re happy to assist with the transportation of your new puppy. We leave the final decision entirely up to you, but below you’ll find helpful information about both ground and air transport options to guide you. Please note: All transportation costs are the responsibility of the buyer.

Ground Transport

Ground transport is recommended for families within a 10-hour drive of our location.

  • We can coordinate with professional ground transport services if needed
  • The seller may be able to meet partway, depending on availability — any associated travel expenses are the buyer’s responsibility

Ground transport is often less stressful for puppies and provides a safe, personal touch when done right.

Air Transport by Flight Nanny

To reduce stress and simplify the process, we can help coordinate air transportation for your puppy.

  • A professional nanny flies with your puppy in-cabin as carry-on
  • Your puppy will be with the nanny at all times during the journey
  • This is the safest and most comfortable option, though it is typically the most expensive

Note: Puppy must be under 30lbs to fly in-cabin

Final Notes

  • All travel arrangements must be confirmed at least 1–2 weeks before the go-home date
  • We will work closely with you to ensure a safe, comfortable journey for your puppy
  • If you have questions or would like help arranging transport, just reach out — we’re happy to assist
